Heartbreak

I haven't updated my blog this week out of respect for Christchurch which had been hit with an earthquake destroying nearly the entire city. Not only do I think it would be wrong to talk about fashion, music and things I like when there are so many more problems in Christchurch, where people are dead and missing. My thoughts are with you Christchurch.

The Grammy Awards 2011 Winners and Losers

The Grammys were very interesting this year. Many strange outfits and unexpected winners. One of the shock winners this year definitely has to be Jazz singer Esperanza Spalding winning the Best New Artist Award. She had lots of competition with the likes of Justin Bieber and Florence & The Machine. After Esperanza won the award all the crazy Bieber fans started tweeting terrible things about her on twitter and they also tampered with her Wikipedia page. I think the Justin Bieber fans should just grow up, wait aren't they all little tween girls, so yeah that explains everything. Personally I would have liked to see Florence & The Machine win. Florence Welch is such an awesome singer. She's not just someone that sounds good recorded she can sing live. One of the other big winners on the night was Lady Gaga who went home with three Grammys.
I was so happy that Train won their Grammy for Hey, Soul Sister for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.
Muse went home with their Grammy for Best Rock Album for The Resistance which made my bf very happy.
This has to be the biggest upset of the night with Arcade Fire winning Album Of The Year for The Suburbs. I like many other people thought Lady Gaga would win for The Fame Monster. Anyways this was my coverage of The Grammys and I will be posting later on the fashion. There were some hideous outfits but this is The Grammys afterall so it's not that unexpected.

Karen's North

Karen Walker showed her Fall 2011 collection today at NYFW. To be honest I'm not going to lie because I am a huge fan of Karen Walker's clothes, this collection was a bit of a let down to me. I felt like the collection wasn't cohesive enough. It was just a bit all over the place. However I do like the jackets and brogues. The jackets look very cosy for winter. Maybe I have misunderstood this entire collection because I don't understand her references to The Dexys Midnight Runner's album, Searching for the Young Rebels. Maybe I should hunt down the album and have a good listen.

This is not a love story. This is a story about love.

Tomorrow is going to be a day filled with mushy couples going out to dinner, gift giving and huge rose sales. I will be going out to dinner with my bf to an Italian restaurant. I really am looking forward to it.
What I don't like about Valentine's Day is the cheesy romantic comedies that are showing at the cinema. The current favourite would be No Strings Attached starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. It looks like a terrible movie. Maybe it's because I really don't like Ashton Kutcher.
A movie I can recommend would be (500) Days of Summer. I first saw this movie on the plane last year to Melbourne and it instantly become my favourite movie. As for romantic comedies go, this is would be on the lower end of the scale. Marc Webb the director describes the movie as more of a "coming of age" story than a "rom-com". I have watched it with my bf and he enjoyed it. I don't really want to talk about the movie because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Oh and the music in the movie is really good. It was definitely Regina Spektor's "Us" at the beginning of the movie that hooked me instantly. Check out the soundtrack which has awesome tunes by The Smiths, Feist etc.

Grammy Award Nominees

The Grammy Awards are just a couple of days away and I've been checking out the nominees for one of the big awards, Album Of The Year. This is really a tough category. With the big contenders definitely being Eminem, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. I wouldn't rule out Arcade Fire or Lady Antebellum though. Lady Antebellum are also nominated for many more awards. The albums in contention for Album Of The Year are:

1. "Recovery" - Eminem
2. "Teenage Dream" - Katy Perry
3. "The Fame Monster" - Lady Gaga
4. "The Suburbs" - Arcade Fire
5. "Need You Now" - Lady Antebellum

My pick for album of the year is "The Fame Monster" by Lady Gaga. We will have to see if my prediction is right in a couple of days.

Songs for Valentine's Day

The Best of Sixpence None the RicherThe Music from The O.C.: Mix 1Eclipse: Twilight Saga OSTFearlessBrand New EyesLungsRomeo + Juliet (96)21st Century BreakdownSpeak for YourselfTwilight OST
So Valentine's Day is less than a week away and I've already booked a restaurant for Valentine's dinner and I just wanted to share my perfect playlist for the special day. I don't know about other people but for Valentine's Day I want love songs.

1. "Kiss Me" - Sixpence None The Richer
This song reminds me of the 90's and when Dawson's Creek was huge. I personally wasn't a big fan of the show but I know this song was made popular by it. I just love the chorus and it is such a sweet song.

2. "Dice" - Finley Quaye
The beat is the best thing in this song. I also love the lyrics "Nothing can compare to when you roll the dice and swear your love's for me". I'm a huge fan of The O.C and this song was playing in the first season where Ryan and Marissa was kissing on New Years. I love how this song reminds me of that scene.

3. "Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever) - Muse
Just the perfect love rock ballad and it's perfect because my bf is a huge fan of Muse. This song is for you.

4. "Love Story" - Taylor Swift
I think this is the sweetest love song. The song is well written and the chorus is so catchy.

5. "The Only Exception" - Paramore
This is a really slow song for a Paramore song. When I first heard this song I was like where's the fast paced drumming and power singing by Hayley. This song did grow on me and it is such a perfect love song. The chorus is really basic but I love the way Hayley repeats"You are the only exception".

6. "You've Got The Love" - Florence & The Machine
This is my favourite power ballad. Florence just sings so well about needing that special someone.

7. "Lovefool" - The Cardigans
This song was featured on the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack and has a killer chorus. "Love me, love me, say that you love......." .

8. "Last Night On Earth" - Green Day
Billie Joe wrote this love song for his wife and I was really lucky to hear it live when Green Day played in Auckland at the end of 2009. The song is so sweet and sounds nothing like any of Green Day's other songs.

9. "Goodnight And Go" - Imogen Heap
I love the music of this song. It's dream like and there is nothing else like it. It's actually my most played song on iTunes so I really love it.

10. "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" - Iron & Wine
All the Twilight fans would recognise this song in a heart beat as this was the song being played when Bella and Edward are slow dancing at their prom. I'm not a big fan of Twilight but this song really is the perfect slow dance song.

Yay New Bag!

So I finally got my first Miu Miu bag last week. The packaging was the nicest I have ever seen and the bag arrived in perfect condition. I haven't properly taken the bag out for a spin yet but I'm definitely going to use it when I go out for Valentines dinner. I have to admit that the bag is better than what it looked like on mytheresa.com. The calf leather is so smooth and very luxurious. I really love how the handle can be detached so I can use the bag as a clutch as well. The bag is actually really spacious, I can fit my wallet, sunglasses and keys really easily.
